GCO Press Announces New Book:

Cleanse and Close:
Last Generation Theology in 14 Points

Published on LastGenerationTheology.org on 2005-12-28

Chattanooga, Tennessee, December 28, 2005: Today, GCO Press released its new book advancing a positive view of Christian life at the close of the age. The initial chapter presents the concept: God will vindicate His name at the end of time through the weakest of the weak. Christianity has its grand finish as believers in Christ follow Him through the ultimate test. Character is revealed as all the forces of evil oppose themselves to God’s people. Cleanse and Close: Last Generation Theology in 14 Points continues by focusing its next 14 chapters on outlining the interconnected doctrinal core of Adventism and how that understanding impacts the Christian walk at a practical level.

The book is actually a doctrinal program yet has been kept very readable. Seven areas, each with a two-subject duet, combine in a journey from the nature of humankind and of sin to the conclusion of the great controversy war.

The book is an ideal missionary literature, sized at 4.25 x 7 inches, and although weighing in at 160 pages, still less than a half inch thick. Typesize is large and very readable. The presentation is given entirely through Scripture and discussion. The chapters are not long, and each concludes with several discussion questions.

This is not the first volume by Larry Kirkpatrick. In 2003 he authored Real Grace for Real People, a book addressing current misconceptions about grace. Pastor Kirkpatrick is an ordained minister and has served in the ministry of the Seventh-day Adventist Church since 1994. Since 1997 he has published many hundreds of articles on the internet.

One of the things making Cleanse and Close particularly interesting is its connection to the youth renewal presently underway in the Adventist Church. While most denominations are losing their youth, in the Adventist church since 2002, a rapidly growing group of young people are standing firm for the faith once delivered to the saints. The emphases found in Cleanse and Close are closely related to emphases presented by speakers at the first General Youth Conference meeting at Pine Springs Ranch in Southern California in 2002 that ignited the movement.

For many years, discussion of Seventh-day Adventist identity has been deemphasized as certain workers sought to focus on the Adventist church’s purported likenesses to other churches rather than to its distinct mission. But now, at long last, a book is available promising to advance the discussion about Seventh-day Adventist identity. Will the book be controversial? No doubt! But no one promised us a boring end-time.

For 2006, this could easily become the book to read. It is like nothing recently offered. For more information:
